Introducing Glasgow 1770 Sherry Cask Matured

1770 Whisky

Say Hello to Sherry Cask Matured!

Glasgow 1770 Sherry Cask Matured, 55% ABV, 6 Years Old

At The Glasgow Distillery, we're always looking for new ways to explore flavour while staying true to our whisky-making roots. That is exactly what led us to create Glasgow 1770 Sherry Cask Matured, a limited edition release that brings together two of our signature whisky styles with the expertise of one of Spain's most respected sherry producers, Ximénez-Spínola.

We're one of only a handful of Scottish distilleries producing three distinct styles of single malt whisky each year: unpeated, peated and triple distilled. Creating these different spirit profiles gives us the flexibility to build flavour in unique ways and experiment with how different casks influence our whisky over time.

For this release, we partnered with Ximénez-Spínola, a historic Spanish sherry house that's dedicated exclusively to the Pedro Ximénez grape. Their focus on quality and flavour mirrors our own, making them a natural fit for a collaborative project. Together, we wanted to create something that showcased both sweet sherry richness and the subtle complexity of peat smoke.

Glasgow 1770 Sherry Cask Matured is built around an equal marriage of our unpeated and peated single malt styles.

The unpeated component began its life in first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels before spending more than two years finishing in Ximénez-Spínola Pedro Ximénez sherry hogsheads. This brought layers of dark fruit, citrus sweetness and rich texture to the whisky.

The peated component also started in first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels, before moving into Ximénez-Spínola Medium Sherry hogsheads for more than three years. The result is a spirit packed with sweet smoke, oily texture and warming spice.

By marrying these two styles together, we created a whisky that balances sweetness and smoke in a way that feels natural and incredibly rewarding to drink.

Batch 1 is made from eight casks in total, four unpeated and four peated. Every cask was carefully selected and matured to allow the sherry influence to complement, rather than overpower, the spirit. The final whisky was married together before being bottled at batch strength, 55% ABV.

As with all Glasgow 1770 releases, its non-chill filtered and presented at natural colour, ensuring as much flavour, texture and character as possible remains in every bottle. With an outturn of 1600 bottles worldwide, it won't be long till we're working towards Batch 2.

Tasting Notes
Nose: Elegant cedarwood and polished oak aromas intertwine with fresh pencil shavings and a hint of earthiness. Sweet citrus notes of clementine and orange emerge alongside toffee apples, vanilla cream, and a soft, inviting veil of sweet smoke.
Palate: Sweet peat smoke leads into a richly textured palate of raisins, dark fruits, and waxy citrus oils. Candied orange peel and zesty orange oil provide brightness and complexity, while layers of vanilla and subtle oak spice create a harmonious balance between sweetness, fruit and wood.
Finish: Gently drying and well-structured, revealing warming oak spice, ground coffee, a subtle saline note, lasting orange oil and a prolonged tendril of sweet smoke.
