Oak Aged Makar Gin Awarded Silver Medal at International Spirits Challenge
It was a silver success for our Glasgow Distillery Company at the highly respected International Spirits Challenge with Cask Aged Oak Gin receiving the highest award level for any cask aged gin. Released as a limited edition in December last year, the newest Makar variant achieved a silver award in the gin category.

Now in its 22nd Year, The International Spirits Challenge is one of the most respected and influential spirits competitions in the world, founded on a rigorous and independent judging process, where an experienced panel undertake a scrupulous blind assessment in each category.

GIN BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
With a flavour like no other, Makar is small batch distilled seven times to develop its distinctive, juniper-led smoothness in a copper pot still called Annie. After a year of experimentation, Makar Oak Aged was developed in European virgin Oak casks and the result is a gin that balances the subtle flavours of the oak whilst retaining its distinctive juniper-led nose.

This year’s competition saw 1,300 entries from 70 countries worldwide and is regarded by many of the world's leading spirits producers as the international standard for quality and excellence.

Speaking of the award, Mike Hayward, co-founder at Glasgow Distillery Company explains: “Innovation and experimentation are at the forefront of our distilling. When we created the cask aged variants, our vision was to create a product that retains the identity of our much-loved Makar gin, but with a flavour twist that our customers can enjoy. To achieve a silver award for our limited edition Oak Aged is very rewarding and highlights the booming trend for fresh gins.”
