Makar Wins 'Cask Gin Of The Year' Three Years In A Row

Last night, we celebrated winning the 'Gold' medal in the 'Cask Gin of the Year' category at the Scottish Gin Awards for the third consecutive year.

A panel of 30 experts judged a total of 173 gins in a blind tasting deciding that Makar Mulberry Aged Gin, which offers woody aromas and notes of lemon, thyme and vanilla on the palate and a peppery finish, was worthy of the Cask Aged category’s highest accolade.

Makar Mulberry Aged Gin also took home the gold 'Cask Gin of the Year' award at last year's Scottish Gin Awards (2018) and our Makar Oak Aged Gin took home the Gold in 2017, meaning that our cask aged gins have dominated the category in Scotland for three consecutive years.

This year, our Makar Mulberry Aged Gin, which is matured in bespoke 50-litre virgin mulberry wood casks over a period of ten weeks, beat stiff competition from Rock Rose and Shetland Reel.

The Mulberry Aged Gin expression is distinctive, as we are one of only a handful of distilleries to have experimented with this type of wood.  We source and sample wood from a variety of countries, to ensure any wood used is of the utmost quality, resulting in premium produce.

We believe we are the only mulberry aged gin in Scotland, so last night’s win is a fitting tribute to an exciting product; and winning the category three years in a row highlights the creativity of our talented distilling team.
