Glasgow 1770 Ruby Port Cask Finish
A new 6 Year Old release that has initially been matured in first fill ex-bourbon casks before an extended secondary maturation with ruby port hogsheads. Presented at 55% ABV, this is a whisky packed with notes of vibrant vanilla, summer berries, dark cherry, almond, and a light pink peppercorn spice.

Our mission
The name ‘Glasgow 1770’ is a tribute to the founding date of the original ‘Glasgow Distillery Company’. Our city once boasted over 30 working whisky distilleries, and the original ‘Glasgow Distillery’, as they were known for a time, were one of the largest in the world until 1902 when they closed their doors. We take on their legacy with a mission to bring quality Glasgow-made spirits back to our city and to the world.
Glasgow 1770 Ruby Port Cask Finish
This is the first in a new series of permanent releases in our Glasgow 1770 Single Malt range. A series of bottlings that showcase a style of cask maturation we have found work perfectly with one of the whisky creation styles we make here at The Glasgow Distillery. These releases will each bear age statements that will progressively increase over the coming years.
Production Summary
Barley: unpeated malted barley sourced from around the UK.
Water: our local soft Scottish water sourced from Loch Katrine.
Yeast: A minimum 72 hours of fermentation within our washbacks using MG Pinnacle Distillers Yeast, which gives us a rich and fruity flavour profile.
Distillation:
Two very slow distillations within our small copper pot stills; first within a 2,500 litre wash still, and then within a smaller 1,500 litre spirit still. These stills are run very slowly to produce a fruit-forward new make spirit.
When producing our unpeated double distilled style, we take a medium cut point of 72% - 63% when we capture our hearts. This gives us a fruity new make spirit that has a waxy tactility across the palate. This new make is then reduced to 63.5% ABV before being filled into casks for maturation.
Maturation:
This is a 6 year old bottling that marries together four casks. Initial maturation within first fill ex-bourbon barrels for 3 years and 10 months, and an extended 2 year and 10 month secondary maturation within Ruby Port casks.
The casks we have used for this bottling are American oak hogsheads that have been seasoned with Ruby Port. The extended secondary maturation of 2 years and 10 months for this first release has imbued our fruity whisky with lovely notes of summer berries and rich fruit.
Bottling:
Glasgow 1770 Ruby Port Cask Finish is presented at a batch strength of 55% ABV. This product is non-chill filtered, which means we’re keeping as much flavour and mouth-tactility within the bottle as possible. This bottle is also presented at natural colour, the pink hued colour all comes from the wood that we use to mature the whisky, first in first fill ex-bourbon and then in Ruby Port casks.
The resulting single malt is rich and fruity, packed full of notes of summer berries, vibrant vanilla, and a light pink peppercorn spice.
