Glasgow 1770 Syrah Wine Cask Batch 01 (Unpeated)
This five year old release is our first use of a Greek Syrah Red Wine cask filled with our unpeated double distilled single malt scotch whisky. Initially matured within first fill ex-bourbon casks, this release has been finished for one year and ten months in Greek Syrah red wine barriques to gain notes of blackberry, raspberry, strawberry jam, black cherry, dark chocolate, and pink peppercorn.

The Small Batch Series
The Small Batch Series is a celebration of our cask experimentation. Every year we fill a wide range of interesting and unique cask types as we explore how our different whisky making styles (across unpeated, peated, and triple distilled single malt) interact with different cask types.
These limited edition releases are a revolving door of interesting cask maturations and finishes that truly demonstrate the breadth and depth of flavour-range we’re producing within our whisky releases. We like to think of these bottlings as a glimpse inside our tasting room as we learn ourselves how our different whisky creation styles react to different maturation treatments.
Production Summary
The Glasgow 1770 Syrah Wine Cask release is a five year old bottling, the contents of two finishing casks that have been married together. Initially matured in first fill ex-bourbon barrels these have enjoyed a long finish in Greek Syrah red wine casks.
The Syrah wine casks used for maturation have been sourced from the Greek island of Evia, also known as Euboea, in central Greece. The Island is flanked by the Aegean Sea to the East and the Euripus strait to the West that links the island to the mainland. The Mediterranean climate in this region features hot and dry summers, that contribute to the ripening of grapes. In autumn and winter the vineyards receive moisture from the dew carried by cold air from Mount Dirphi that lies at the centre of the Island.
Whilst mostly known for cultivating white grapes, around 80% of the Island’s production, the red Syrah from this region is held in high esteem and typically boasts notes of rich baked dark fruits and vibrant vanilla.
Glasgow 1770 Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Syrah Wine Cask, is the first time we have has used this type of cask for maturation. Casks No. 20/1379 and 20/1380 were filled on the 17th of February 2020 with our signature double distilled unpeated style before the contents were re-racked into the Greek Syrah wine barriques for a finishing period of one year and ten months before bottling on the 5th of March 2025.
Bottled at 59.3% ABV with 652 bottles available, this release is a lovely marriage of our fresh and fruity unpeated style with notes of rich juicy vanilla and caramel gained from the initial first fill ex-bourbon cask, before notes of blackberry, raspberry, strawberry jam, black cherry, dark chocolate, and pink peppercorn are contributed by the Greek Syrah influence.
